From Babel to the Round Table of Camelot: On Setting up a Common Language and Objective for European Radon Risk Mapping. Part II. Harmonization and Standardization of Radon Data and Maps

Abstract

A recent report about European radon surveys has underlined the large variety of methods used to generate so-called risk maps. To allow comparison of these maps, some common objectives and terminologies first need to be found. Should the purposes of these radon risk maps become clearer, it should become possible to propose a common strategy that will allow European countries to generate maps that are comparable. In part 2 of the article, we identify several technical issues related to harmonization of data and data processing, and suggest schemes to link source and target variables, i.e. between available datasets of, e.g., indoor or soil gas Rn concentration, or geological factors, and a variable which serves as proxy to risk caused by Rn.
