Abstract: Jammer localization is usually performed through the deployment of a complex infrastructure where several nodes simultaneously monitor the frequency bands to be protected from jamming. In this paper, two alternative approaches for jamming localization are investigated. They are based on Carrier-to-Noise power spectral density ratio (C/N0) measurements and do not require the deployment of a complex infrastructure. The first approach is based on the synthetic array principle. The idea behind synthetic array techniques is that a set of sensors in different positions in space can be replaced by a single sensor which is moving along a known trajectory. The measurements taken by the moving sensor in different positions can be considered equivalent to those collected by the nodes of the physical array. The second approach is based on crowdsourcing where collective detection/location of jammers is performed using the potential of a large number of smartphones simultaneously observing a jamming event. The two approaches are investigated using the data collected during the experimental campaigns performed in the proximity of the remote village of Črnotiče, Slovenia.
