|Abstract:||Natural hazards can cause loss-of-containment events at hazardous installations, resulting in fires, explosions or toxic or radioactive releases. These so-called Natech accidents have frequently had severe consequences on the population, the environment and the economy. Proper preparedness for Natech accidents is therefore crucial. Using case studies from across the world, this article highlights the unique difficulties associated with emergency preparedness and response for Natech accidents and makes recommendations on how to meet these challenges.|
