Abstract: The study presnts a method for settlment location probability and population density estiations at 90 m resolution for northern Iraq using teh Shuttle Radar Topograhic Mission digital terrain model and Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellilte imagery. Population density is attributed to land cover, land cover heterogeneity and topographic features.
