|Abstract:||This paper focuses on the process of evaluation of the external efficiency of higher education, defined as the effect of university education on the long-term income of graduates; in particular we propose the use of human capital as the outcome of interest and a proper methodology to estimate it as the latent variable in the presence of reflective, formative and concomitant indicators. Finally, in the application of the methodology a comparison is made between human capital in Italy and the USA, estimated using the most recent national sample surveys on income and wealth.|
