Abstract: THE WORK DEALS WITH THE STRESS AND FRACTURE MECHANICS ANALYSIS, AS APPLIED FOR THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY ASSESSMENT OF THE JRC-ISPRA 1/5 SCALE PWR PRESSURE VESSEL. BEHAVIOUR OF THE NOZZLE CORNER REGION DURING PHASE I OF FATIGUE TEST, HAS BEEN EXAMINED. THE APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM PRESENTED AND ADOPTED IN THE WORK IS BASED ON THE FINITE ELEMENT, THREE DIMENSIONAL NON-LINEAR STRESS ANALYSIS, THE RESULTS OF WHICH ARE USED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE RELEVANT FRACTURE MECHANICS PARAMETERS, STRAIN ENERGY RELEASE RATE, J INTEGRAL, STRESS INTENSITY FACTOR, PROBABILISTIC FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH RATE. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED AND THOSE FROM THE LITERATURE, CONFIRM THE OBTAINED ANALYTICAL ONES.
