|Abstract:||The Community Image Data portal is a project dedicated to the management of an archive of Earth Observation data located at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. Data discovery and data sharing between different user groups requires the implementation of well known common standards. Following this principle, emphasis has therefore been given to the implementation of an infrastructure based on INSPIRE-compliant Discovery, View and Download services. Usage and sharing of Earth Observation data are mostly restricted by various licensing terms and conditions imposed by commercial data providers. This aspect has also been taken into account during the implementation of the data access services. In the implementation study phase, the current standards used for Web services for geo-data have been analysed and limitations regarding mechanisms for digital rights management and user authentication/authorisation have been identified. The implemented solution has to overcome these limitations of existing standards and software. The solution has been inspired by the electronic commerce domain to allow users to make their selections among the available products, allowing access to personalised data services.|
