This approach was based on the interpretation of monitoring data, the implementation of detailed three-dimensional mathematical models, the critical validation of the simulation processes and the projection into the future taking into consideration specific emission scenarios. This work demonstrates why three-dimensional mathematical models is not always a straightforward process. It requires an integrated tackling of the problem, involving the characterisation of the emissions in space and time. The mathematical models for air circulation and dispersion of contaminants are then applied on air-sheds that constitute a "closed system". This work addresses issues as how big should be this domain, what spatial resolution should be used, which pollutants should be accounted, how episodes are identified and how long they last. }, title = {Forecasting Air-Quality and the Implementation of Abatement Strategies in Large Urban Areas.}, type = {}, url = {}, volume = {}, number = {}, journal = {Environmental Monitoring and Assessment}, pages = {}, issn = {}, publisher = {}, doi = {} }
