Modelling human behaviour in different technological domain has been studied and developed for many years and, nowadays, the existing paradigms enable a consistent and robust representation of the way in which human-machine interaction takes place. A critical aspect of human behaviour modelling is associated with the identification of parameters and indicators that characterize behaviour in dynamic conditions. The number of these parameters can be very high. However, this aspect clashes with the essential requirement of design and safety assessment that models enable the performance of many simulations covering a wide variety of traffic and driving situations. Moreover, the adaptive behaviour of drivers to their vehicle performance and, in particular, to the support and information systems present on board, further complicates the identification of such critical parameters. For this reason, within the European Project called AIDE (Adaptive Integrated Driver-vehicle InterfacE) that aims at the integration in a harmonised interface of all in-vehicle support and information systems, a specific research activity has been dedicated to the identification of crucial behavioural adaptation aspects.
