These schools were a great success. Both years about 70 students and young researchers from all over the world participated to lectures, laboratory visits and demonstrations. The feedback received from the participants was very positive and has been included in the programme of the 3rd Summer School, held from 15 to 18 June 2005. This school will be co-sponsored by the ACTINET Network of Excellence. The Summer School on Actinide Science and Applications is suitable for students and young researchers who have an interest in basic actinide chemistry, physics and material science. The sixteen lectures, featuring experts from international organisations and ITU, will address the following four topics: • Basic actinide science. • The nuclear fuel cycle. • Reactor fuel under irradiation. • Environmental aspects of actinides. The school will give the participants a glance at the intriguing science of the 5f elements and their applications in modern society. The lectures will be given during the morning sessions, the afternoons will be devoted to visits of the laboratories of ITU (controlled area) and the neighbouring German research centre FZK, and to laboratory demonstrations during which the participants can learn and experience the challenges of working with actinides. }, title = {The 3rd Summer School on Actinide Science and Applications - 15-18 June 2005 - Institute for Transuranium Elements Karlsruhe/Germany }, url = {}, volume = {}, number = {}, issn = {}, publisher = {European Communities - Joint Research Centre}, doi = {} }
