	abstract = {The state of European soil is the result of human activities aver the past millenia. Only in few remote areas of Europe we can still pristine "natural" soils. The soil map of Europe is representing the distribution of major soil types in WRB that are the results of natural soil forming factors: climate, lithology, vegetation, geomorphology, etc. For the purpose of the thematic strategy for soil protection, the distribution of soil types according to these factors can help in defining possible targets for soil protection. Prerequisite is the delineation of risk areas for the major threats to soils.
