	abstract = {The EC GI & GIS Workshops focus on the development of a European Spatial Data Infrastructure (ESDI). The presentations of the workshop give an overview of progress of the INSPIRE initiative, SDI implementation challenges, costs, and benefits at national, regional, and local level. In addition, key research issues are identified and discussed, including new methods for indexing, searching and retrieving metadata, new methods for distributed geo-processing, social and economic impacts.
