Handbook on Lead-bismuth Eutectic Alloy and Lead Properties, Materials Compatibility, Thermal-hydraulics and Technologies: 2015 Edition - Introduction

The OECD-NEA has released the Handbook on Lead-bismuth Eutectic Alloy and Lead Properties, Materials Compatibility, Thermal-hydraulics and Technologies: 2015 Edition, which was prepared by the NEA Expert Group on Heavy Liquid Metal Technologies (EGHLM). It was produced by members of the NEA Expert Group on Heavy Liquid Metal Technologies and by numerous contributors from related institutions (including JRC), under the chairmanship of Dr Concetta Fazio from the Commission of the European Communities Joint Research Centre – Institute for Transuranium Elements. This second edition of the Handbook was compiled and edited over a period of approximately seven years, and it includes new data that has helped in better understanding phenomena such as liquid metal embrittlement or turbulent heat transfer in a fuel bundle and safety guidelines. In addition, new experimental data and updated and/or alternative explanations of phenomena such as post-irradiation examination of irradiated samples. It is assessed by the Expert Group on HLM Technologies as a reference in the field and as a valuable tool for designers, researchers and all professional groups that have an interest in HLM technologies that are being actively pursued in several countries.
