Valutazioni incidentali per la gestione dell'emergenza nucleare e radiologica presso il JRC-Ispra

Given the current conditions of the ESSOR reactor facility of the JRC-Ispra, now in a state of permanent and irreversible arrest, it was necessary to update the radiological impact assessment of a possible nuclear accident in order to prepare a new external emergency plan. The paper describes the methodology used for the evaluations, both preventive and in support of emergency management, in the different scenarios outlined for the ESSOR reactor. They have analyzed the results obtained with different calculation codes (GENII and SafeAir), the applied site specific parameterization, and spreadsheets developed as operational tools to support preventive radiological impact evaluations and decisions for the management of emergencies. Spreadsheets allow in particular to obtain, by varying some basic parameters, the data needed for assessments without having to repeat the simulations and are also applicable to other nuclear installations of the JRC-Ispra.
