G3 Multi-constellation and FDE Synergies for GNSS Navigation in Signal Degraded Scenarios
Multi-constellation techniques have the potential to extend GNSS usage to environments where navigation, using a single GNSS, is usually precluded. Although the multi-constellation approach guarantees increased signal availability, it may not be sufficient to provide accurate navigation solutions. In particular, effective outlier Fault Detection and Exclusion (FDE) techniques are needed to fully exploit the multi-constellation opportunity.
The paper proposes a modified version of the classical Forward-Backward (FB) technique, exploiting a G3 multi-constellation solution, i.e. the multi-constellation composed by GPS Galileo and GLONASS. The approach considers Galileo and GLONASS measurements and the application of a FDE technique to the G3 multi-constellation solution. In particular, the different accuracies of the GNSS measurements are accounted for along with ad hoc design matrices which consider intersystem biases and drifts.
