Reconocimiento de los depósitos de debris avalanche de Gran Canaria: Unos mega-deslizamientos poco conocidos
During the last decades, the very high influence of large landslides in the evolution of volcanic islands has become evident. Among these landslides, the debris avalanches make up their own group because of their large dimensions, their extreme speed of formation and the complexity of the resulting deposits. In Gran Canaria, there are two good examples of this type of landslides: 1) the Pliocene debris avalanche of the Roque Nublo stratovolcano, whose deposit exceeds 30 km in length, and 2) the 7.1 km long debris avalanche of Tenteniguada, of Quaternary age. This paper explains the specific characteristics of debris avalanches and shows how they have enabled to recognize and study the large landslides that generated them.
