The paper describes the challenges for embedding cyber security aspects and techniques in the design of the future intelligent electricity systems (smart grids). The paper illustrates relevant JRC activities for mapping, analysing and testing system interoperability and integration solutions in upcoming smart grid concepts and schemes. It touches upon smart grid research and innovation and policy/experimental support to standardisation and cyber security integration.
