Power matrix measurements and energy rating analysis of organic PV mini-modules
In this paper we present accurate measurements of I-V characteristics of two organic PV (OPV) minimodules, measured indoors following the standard IEC 61853-1. The measurements were performed at a large-area steady-state solar simulator over a reduced range of temperatures and irradiances compared to what the standard IEC 61853-1 requires. The analysis of the electrical parameters dependence on irradiance and temperature shows interesting results. An energy rating evaluation for OPV devices based on the measured power matrix data set has been performed, too. The estimate of the module performance ratio at five different climatic locations shows how the OPV technology has comparable values to some of the most common PV technologies, and also that for some of the considered locations it may even perform relatively better. Spectral and temperature effects are the main contributing factors.
