In-service monitoring for small utility engines
Pilot programme for procedure development
This Report summarizes an experimental campaign for the in-service monitoring of exhaust emissions from small non-road mobile engines (classes NRSh-v1a, NRSh-v1b, NRS-vr-1a). The appropriateness of the existing ageing procedure which covers the entire durability period was confirmed and a specific in-service procedure should not be applied. The bench and field procedures seem to induce very similar ageing, with slightly more severe field ageing; this has to be confirmed for new engine models. The reduction of emission limit values for hydrocarbons (-10%), carbon monoxide (-30%) and nitrogen oxides (-40%) were discussed and recommended as long as the introduction of the alkylate fuel.
