The European crop monitoring and yield forecasting system: celebrating 25 years of MARS bulletins
To contribute to the management of the agricultural market of the European Union (EU), the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission (EC) has monitored crops and forecasted crop yields and production since 1993. During these 25 years, the EU has expanded from 12 to 28 Member States (MS) and the total annual EU production of wheat doubled from about 70 to 140 Mt.
