Consumer and Consumption Footprint: assessing the environmental impacts of consumption in the EU
As part of its commitment towards more sustainable production and consumption, the European Commission developed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)-based framework, which allows assessing the environmental impacts related to EU-28 consumption of goods and services. Two indicators have been developed: the Consumer Footprint and the Consumption Footprint. The indicators are relevant in light of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal on Responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), adopted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to assess implications on other environmentally-relevant SDGs.
