Nature-based solutions for water management: from pilot to standard
The special issue aims at collecting high-quality papers from within and outside the JRC, presenting assessments of the effectiveness, costs and benefits of nature-based solutions for water management in agriculture and urban areas. The JRC will contribute as a minimum with three papers, namely (1) a paper on an assessment of the benefits of urban greening in terms of runoff control, water harvesting and climate regulation; (2) a paper on the EU-scale mapping of effectiveness, costs and benefits of selected types of nature-based solutions in agriculture; and (3) a review of about 10 case studies where nature-based solutions for water management in agriculture have been investigated in detail in terms of cost-effectiveness and the business model required for effective implementation. The issue will include about 3 invited papers from distinguished experts, and 5 papers spontaneously submitted following a dedicated call for papers.
