Integrating Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement With Guidelines: Systematic Stakeholder-Driven Development of an Extension of the Guidelines International Network-McMaster Guideline Development Checklist
Abstract is not available because the manuscript was published as an editorial.
Brief summary:
Guidelines and quality indicators are complementary, and recommendations from guidelines
should be more closely linked to measure the implementation of recommendations and
their effect on health quality improvement. While international consensus on principles for
the development of trustworthy guidelines has been achieved via the GIN-McMaster
Guideline Developers Checklist, international guidance to harmonize the development of
Guideline-based Quality Indicators and Performance Measures as well as their integration
into quality improvement (QI) and quality assurance (QA) schemes into guideline
development is missing. Therefore, we propose an extension of the GIN-McMaster Guideline
Developers Checklist. No guidance to date has outlined steps for the integration of quality
improvement (QI) and quality assurance (QA) schemes into guideline development. In this
study we develop a checklist extension to support this work.
