Towards further harmonization of a glossary for exposure science - an ISES Europe statement
This paper describes the outcome of a systematic review and analysis by the European Chapter of the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES Europe) of a core set of exposure-related terms. Several glossaries of terms to be used in exposure evaluations are published in guidance documents for exposure and risk assessments by national and international organisations. However, these glossaries consider different terms and provide diverging definitions. Additionally, some terms and respective definitions evolved due to the increased relevance of exposure science in the regulatory field. Consequently, there is no comprehensive overview available that covers the most frequent and relevant terms used in exposure science in a comprehensive compilation.
To contribute to supporting harmonised terminology in exposure assessment reports, ISES Europe has prepared recommendations for harmonised exposure terms to be applied across all contexts and levels of exposure assessments.
