The Requirements and Development of Neutron Beams for Neutron Capture Therapy of Brain Cancer
Boron neutron capture therapy is currently practiced in USA and Japan using neutron beams at research reactors. BNCT was first performed in the late 1950s and early 60s in USA, using thermal neutron beams. The trials were a failure due to poorly performing brams and non-discriminating boron compounds. This paper looks at the history of boron tube development and discusses the requirements of present beam tube design, and the potential of research reactors, accelerators and radioisotope sources, worldwide.
