European Public Health Best Practice portal - process and criteria for best practice assessment
European countries face many common challenges in public health and can learn from each other. While specific health issues are tackled more efficiently by some countries, as demonstrated for example by differences in disease mortality rates, other countries seem to fall behind. The exchange of ‘best practices’ is one way to tackle the observed disparities. The European Commission committed to support the transfer and scaling up of policies or interventions whose effectiveness is well established and which could be successfully transferred to other countries. This article presents the rationale, the process and assessment criteria used by the EU Public Health Best Practice portal that select best practices in the area of health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of non-communicable diseases for possible transfer and implementation in the EU Member States.
