JRC MARS Bulletin - Global outlook - Crop monitoring European neighbourhood - Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt - June 2022
Improved yield expectations, except in Morocco
The cereal season in North Africa was marked by drought until February/March, accompanied by hot temperatures in Morocco and western Algeria. In Morocco, this resulted in irreversible loss of yield potentials, and the yield outlook is well-below the 5-year average for both wheat and barley. Yield expectations for winter cereals in Algeria have improved since March, but remain below the 5-year average. Yield forecasts for Tunisia have been revised upward, to above the 5-year average for barley and well above the 5-year average for wheat. The expectations for the final productions in Libya and Egypt are around average.
