JRC MARS Bulletin - Global outlook - Crop monitoring European neighbourhood - Turkey - May 2022
Cold spring delayed crop growth
Winter crops in Turkey are marked by a significant delay in development and thus lower than usual biomass accumulation is now observed. Such conditions are still recoverable, as already occurred in the past, and are not a sign of low yield potential. The yield forecasts for winter cereal yields are above the 5-year average and last year’s values. However, the very delayed development increases crop vulnerability to heat stress, and the favourable yield potential could be compromised in the coming weeks. The summer crops season is beginning without major concerns.
