cover
Public release SMOD PROJ R2020 V1.0
The Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) produces new global spatial information, evidence-based analytics and knowledge describing the human presence on the planet Earth. The GHSL operates in a fully open and free data and methods access policy, building the knowledge supporting the definition, the public discussion and the implementation of European policies and the international frameworks such as the 2030 Development Agenda and the related thematic agreements. The GHSL supports intergovernmental and international organisations working on sustainable and resilient urban development, in the framework of the Degree of Urbanisation commitment to develop a standardised definition of urban and rural area, in the United Nations systems or in the framework of the GEO Human Planet Initiative (HPI) that is committed to developing a new generation of measurements and information products providing new scientific evidence and a comprehensive understanding of the human presence on the planet and that can support global policy processes with agreed, actionable and goal-driven metrics. This document describes the public release of the SMOD projection 2015-2070, Version 1.0, R2020. The release provides a first estimation of settlement classification evolution from the year 2015 to 2070 in decadal steps (2020-2030-2040-2050-2060-2070) with the Degree of Urbanisation methodology applied to input built-up area and population grids projections to the year 2100 produced by DG REGIO.
