While official statistics indicate a growing interest in online music listening throughout the EU, showing ‘how much’ people use the internet for music, the level of detail of the data provided does not allow to understand ‘how’ Europeans are using the internet to this end. This document aims at exploring just this, by monitoring how Europeans search on the internet for topics conceptually linked to music consumption in the digital world. The analysis shows that online search data suggests that people searching for music on Google are mainly interested (by order of importance) in downloading music, watching music videos playing music, listening to music, exploring different music genres, exploring events and festivals.
