Market Surveillance Activities Vehicle safety

Regulation (EU) 2018/858 . establishes the role and obligations of economic operators, Member States and the European Commission regarding the type approval and compliance of motor vehicles placed on the EU market. With regards to Market Surveillance by the Commission, Article 9 provides that: "the Commission shall organise and carry out, at its own expense, tests and inspections to verify that vehicles, systems, components and separate technical units comply with the relevant requirements". As the technical and science service of the Commission, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) has been requested by DG GROW to carry the European Commission vehicle safety market surveillance tests. The role of JRC is therefore to provide technical support to DG GROW for the implementation of the Commission responsibilities.
The present yearly report summarises the vehicle safety market surveillance activities performed by JRC during the period February 2019 - December 2021. The report also informs about the vehicle safety research activities performed during the same period.
