Abstract: A brief description is given on nuclear techniques to analyse surfaces of leached UO2-single crystals. The kinetics of the growth of layers of higher oxides, their thickness and the water content can be measured non-destructively. The above techniques are used to analyse the structure layers of U3O7 on UO2 leached in deminaralized water at temperatures up to 200*C and to define the lattice mismatch between the bulk UO2 and the transformed layer.
