Joint Research Centre Statistical Analysis of the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2021 (ROLI)
The objectives of the audit are mainly threefold: (i) check the main characteristics of the data in terms of their coverage and distributional features, and detect any potential inconsistency, error or coverage issues; (ii) check the statistical properties of aggregating variables into an overall ROLI index in terms of the correlation structure within and across the factors in order to determine whether the allocation of the factors and sub-factors to the specific aggregates is consistent both from conceptual and statistical perspectives, and (iii) investigate the impact of modelling assumptions on the results (scores) with two dedicated sub-sections. One focusing on the methodological choices made in the construction of the Index, and another one focusing on the relative importance of GPP in generating ROLI scores and country ranks, as well as the sensitivity check of the Index scores and ranks for different poll sample sizes.
