Separation of the Spin and Orbital Moments in Antiferromagnetic UAs.
Non-resonant magnetic X-ray scattering has been observed in the simple type-IA double-k antiferromagnet uranium arsenide. Polarization analysis of the diffracted X-ray beam has provided an experimental verification of the non-resonant magnetic X-ray cross-section and shown the dominance of the orbital contribution to the magnetization density. The measured value for the ratio of the orbital to the spin contributions is in reasonable agreement with the free-ion value.
