JRC MARS Bulletin - Global outlook - Crop monitoring European neighbourhood - Ukraine, April 2023
Weather conditions permit fair yield outlook
Mild temperatures combined with sufficient rainfall since the start of the 2022-2023 season currently maintain a fair-to-positive yield outlook for winter crops in a major part of Ukraine. However, winter wheat production is forecast significantly below the 5-year average.
A decrease in winter crop sown areas due to the lower availability of labour and agricultural input because of Russia’s war against Ukraine is noted. This does not only apply for the non-government controlled areas, but also in the oblasts under the control of Ukraine.
