Delayed sowing campaign of winter cereals
Wetter-than-usual conditions in most of western, northern, and parts of central Europe delayed sowing of winter cereals and affected crop establishment and initial growth. Regionally, it hampered sugar beet and potato harvest and caused flooding. In the Iberian Peninsula, Estonia, and Finland, above-average rainfall increased soil moisture levels, leading to adequate conditions for emerging crops. In eastern Spain, southern Italy, and particularly eastern Romania and Bulgaria, dry conditions caused delays in sowing as well as poor sprouting and emergence.
