JRC MARS Bulletin - Global outlook - Crop monitoring European neighbourhood - Türkiye, October 2023
Above to well-above average yield outlook
In Türkiye, the hot and dry weather conditions in July and August did not cause stress to crops, because the wetter-than-usual conditions in May and June had resulted in favourable soil moisture levels in the rainfed areas of central and western Anatolia, where most of the winter crops are produced. The earlier wet conditions had also increased water reserves for irrigation in southern and south-eastern regions, thus setting positive outlooks for summer crops during grain filling. Grain maize reached maturity in the first dekad of September, and in some areas the harvest had just started. The harvest of soybean is at an advanced stage and will be finished by the second dekad of September. Overall, the yield outlook for Türkiye is positive and our forecasts range from above to well above the 5-year average.
