Certification of the mass fraction of pentachlorobenzene and hexachlorocyclohexane isomers α, β and γ in fish tissue: ERM®-CE103
ERM®-CE103 is a fish tissue material certified for the mass fraction of pentachlorobenzene and hexachlorocyclohexane isomers α, β and γ (on a wet weight basis), produced within the scope of ISO 17034 and in accordance with ISO Guide 35:2017.
ERM-CE103 is a fish homogenate prepared from wild Wels catfish (Silurus glanis) and pike perch (Sander lucioperca). The fish fillets were cut, shock-frozen in liquid nitrogen and cryogenically milled. After a pre-cooking step and step-wise mixing and homogenisation, the material was filled into jars and autoclaved for sterilisation. The CRM is available in glass jars containing at least 40 g of fish paste.
Between-unit homogeneity was quantified and stability during transport and storage was assessed in accordance with ISO Guide 35. The minimum sample size for one measurement is 8 g.
The material was characterised by an interlaboratory comparison of laboratories of demonstrated competence and adhering to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Technically invalid results were removed but no outlier was eliminated unless a technical reason for the deviation was found.
Uncertainties of the certified values were calculated in accordance with ISO 17034:2016 and ISO Guide 35:2017 and include uncertainties related to possible inhomogeneity, instability and characterisation.
The material is intended for the quality control and assessment of method performance.
Before release of the CRM, the certification project was subjected to peer-review involving both internal and external experts.
