Segmenting consumers and tailoring behavioural interventions to reduce consumer food waste
Behavioural interventions, such as nudges, are increasingly being proposed to achieve behavioural change, such as reducing consumer food waste. Consumer food waste is a pertinent issue, as it is responsible for a notable amount of CO2 emissions. At the same time, reducing food waste is a simple yet effective way for individuals to reduce their ecological footprint. This report explores the potentials for practitioners and policymakers to apply consumer segmentation and create targeted and tailored behavioural interventions to reduce consumer food waste consumption effectively and efficiently. It introduces both methods, their potential benefits, and challenges, and provides examples from the scientific literature on food waste reduction.
