Instrumentation and test execution
In order to support the development of the regulatory thermal propagation test in the frame of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Global Technical Regulation on Electric Vehicle Safety (UNECE GTR EVS), an inter-laboratory test is being prepared and coordinated by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission aiming at assessing repeatability and robustness of experimental methodology for rapid localised external heating-triggered thermal runaway and propagation test at electric vehicle level.
To ensure that the inter-laboratory test is carried out under the same technical conditions, protocol described in the present report provides a complete, step by step technical instruction for instrumentation of the vehicle’s battery and vehicle itself with all necessary devices, setting up a data acquisition system in order to record all data and performing a thermal runaway and propagation test.
