Transmutation of Technetium and Iodine. Irradiation Test in the Frame of the EFTTRA Cooperation.
Irradiation tests of the transmutation of the fission products technetium and iodine have been performed in the HFR at Petten. Samples of Tc metal (Tc-99) and of three different metal iodides (cerium triiodide, sodium iodide and lead diiodide, containing the stable I-127 isotope) have been irradiated during 8 reactor cycles (192.95 full power days). Post-irradiation examination has been performed to measure the transmutation rate and to investigate the material behaviour during irradiation.
