The intermetallic compounds for the light actinides exhibit a wide variety of physical, esp. magnetic properties. The latter cover, f.ex., localized 5f magnetism, correlated 5f electron behaviour, superconductivity and Pauli-paramagnetism. The UX3 and NpX3 compounds, all crystallizing in the AuCu3 structure, provide an excellent possibility for an investigation of systematic changes in 5f electron structure.
