Educators play a critical role in the digital transformation of education and in facilitating learners’ digital competence. However, supporting the development of their own digital competence remains a challenge for many education systems. The European framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) provides a conceptual background of what digital competence is for educators, based on which the CheckIn self-assessment tool was developed to guide educators self-assess their digital competence and support them to develop it further. This paper offers a comprehensive overview of the data collected from the CheckIn tool between March 2018 and January 2022. The data further allow for a comparison between educators’ self-perceptions of their digital competence —both before and after interacting with the CheckIn questions— and their actual results. The study provides insights on how educators’ self-assess their digital competence on which further research can build on.
