Guest Editorial Special Issue on 5G/6G Precise Positioning on Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) and Connected Automated Vehicles (CAV)–Part I
The advancement of connected intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS) and connected automated vehicles (CAV) has brought about a growing need for precise positioning solutions. The scope of this two-parts Special Issue (SI) includes high value theoretical and experimental studies, as well as use cases related to positioning systems in C-ITS. The SI aims at presenting innovative ideas to address the issue of precise positioning in C-ITS and CAV networks. We have received more than one hundred high-quality submissions, from both academia and industry, Due to the limited available slots and tight publication schedule only 30 articles were eventually accepted for publication in the two-parts SI. Those accepted papers have been further grouped into seven categories as follows: 1) MIMO techniques; 2) Artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), federated learning (FL) and deep learning (DL); 3) Joint communication and sensing (JCaS); 4) Unmanned aerial systems (UASs) and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). 5) Quantum technologies; 6) Direct communication, hybrid technologies and cognitive sensing; 7) Selected topics. The 14 articles included in Part I are in the areas of MIMO techniques, Artificial intelligence/machine learning, federated learning and deep learning, and Joint communication and sensing. A brief account of each of these articles is given below.
