JRC MARS Bulletin - Global outlook - Crop monitoring European neighbourhood - Ukraine, June 2024

cover
Below average yield outlook for winter crops
Adverse weather, including a rain deficit in May and a June heatwave, has compromised winter crop yields in Ukraine, with reductions in forecast production levels compared with 2023, albeit close to the five-year average. Despite a warm winter, regional disparities in spring conditions have led to varying crop outcomes, with eastern regions suffering more. While areas for maize and sunflower remain unchanged and soybean cultivation has increased, overall grain production is expected to decline, compared with 2023, with wheat down by 25% and winter barley by 12%. Occupied territories account for a significant portion (12.5%) of the cereals production. The rapeseed yield is also anticipated to drop by 12%.
