Competitivness of Solar Photovoltaics in the European Union
After the Paris Agreement in 2015, annual solar photovoltaic system installations have increased nine-fold from 6 GWp in 2016 to over 55 GWp in 2023. In 2022, the European Commission presented the REPowerEU and the European Union Solar Energy Strategy with the aim of reducing net emissions by at least 55 % by 2030 and more than 500 GWp additional increase of the photovoltaic capacity by 2030. In March 2023, the European Commission proposed the Net-Zero Industry Act, which is still under negotiations. The aim of the act is to create the required environment to scale up manufacturing of net-zero industry in the EU and face up to the future demand. The original target for 30 GWp of European competitive manufacturing along the entire value chain by 2025 was moved to 2030.
