SME Performance Review 2024
Methodological note on Nowcasting and Forecasting
This methodological report explains the data sources and methods used by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) to compile the dataset on structural small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) indicators in the annual SME Performance Review, and commissioned by the Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). The SME Performance Review is one of the main tools used by the European Commission to monitor and assess countries' progress in implementing the SME strategy and the Small Business Act (SBA). The dataset produced by the JRC includes now- and forecasts of the three core variables used to monitor and analyse SME performance in EU Member States, and 12 other countries: number of enterprises, number of persons employed, and value added.
