Support for global models and integration of TELEMAC in a python-based ecosystem
This paper presents the efforts to implement official support for global unstructured meshes to the
TELEMAC suite and its integration within the Python based framework pyPoseidon. After a brief overview of the current state of global ocean modelling, the paper details the workflow from data gathering to post-processing. Particular attention is given to the novel adaptations that facilitate TELEMAC's alignment with established community protocols, such as the opentelemac conda package and xarray-selafin integration. These enhancements streamline the modelling process and extend TELEMAC's capabilities to support global scale applications. Furthermore, the paper highlights the significance of a standardized and open modelling environment ranging from data acquisition to model output visualization, fostering collaborations across teams, tackling the complex challenges associated with global models, that leads to better understanding of our oceans.
