Highlights:
- The EU faces the unprecedented challenge of decarbonising the economy, while fostering growth and competitiveness.
- The twin transition represents a viable pathway for achieving this goal.
- The new EU SME twin transition monitor provides an assessment of SME readiness for the digital and environmental transitions, including their resilience capabilities, crucial for their success in this change process and to ensure their long-term competitiveness.
- The monitor includes 33 indicators, and follows the JRC and OECD methodology for building composite indicators and scoreboards.
- Results show that Nordic and Benelux countries lead in SME readiness for the twin transition, while Southern and Eastern Europe face greater challenges.
- This prototype study also includes an assessment of SMEs exposure to different climate change hazards, which will be expanded in future iterations of this project.
