Technical support to define performance and durability minimum requirements for industrial batteries
Supporting the provisions in Art. 10 (5) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542
This report outlines recommendations and proposals to support the development of performance and durability minimum requirements applicable to rechargeable industrial batteries >2kWh, except those with exclusively external storage, according to (EU) 2023/1542 Art. 10 (5).
For performance, the JRC identified energy round trip efficiency as conditionally suitable for minimum requirements, where energy efficiency benefits will have to be weighed against challenges posed by technical complexities and limited data availability.
For durability, the JRC identified capacity fade and expected life-time in years and cycles as suitable for minimum requirements, and presents a concept proposal addressing the variety of batteries in scope supplemented by relevant supporting data.
